ZONE A
Zone A of Ringön is the area you first encounter when arriving from the city, which offers a valuable opportunity to showcase its rich mix of businesses, services, and the harbor, highlighting its importance as a vibrant gateway to the district. In the northern part of Zone A, many companies have established themselves. This area is also home to the new Vagnhallen for public transport vehicles. Further south, there are more services available, such as an animal hospital, IT shops, print shops, and tool stores. Along the waterfront, you will find parking areas, a major leasing company, and the Blue Marine marina. Additionally, the Stadsmiljöförvaltningen (City Environment Administration) occupies a significant amount of space.
NEW URBAN LANDSCAPES | ACE 495

FREE PROTOTYPE ZONE
Josua Ernvik
Ringön is surrounded by neighbourhoods going through large scale, top-down gentrification. Can Ringön’s path forward be something different? A transformation for the better where the old isn’t wiped away and replaced but lifted in its beauty and uniqueness? Can Ringön become a breath of fresh air of the unexpected, the bottom-up and the humane amidst its planned and carefully conformed neighbours?

URBAN PROTOTYPES | ACE 465

Room for Connection
Vivienne Becker
The floating prototypes establish a direct connection between the entrance area and the center of Ringön. Additionally, the modules create spaces that encourage human interaction and a closer connection with nature. For instance, small parks teeming with greenery are integrated alongside temporary houses and office spaces. Grass areas filled with wildflowers are designed to attract Nordic bees, while algae in the water draw fish. The adaptive design is prepared to accommodate rising sea levels, and the bridge remains moveable

Changing Tides
Gjermund August Lia Bjønnes
At the intersection of Ringön’s industrial heritage and Gothenburg’s ecological aspirations lies a transformative vision: an Urban Naturum that thrives within the tides of Göta River. This experimental prototype invites intertidal species and humans to coexist in a dynamic environment shaped by nature and industry. With tide-responsive structures that embrace the rhythmic flow of the river and open access to the riverside for public exploration, the design reimagines the waterfront as a living laboratory of sustainability.
INBETWEEN THE REEDS
Gabriel Kant
A modular floating bridge system that creates a landscape of reeds and meeting spaces along the river in central Gothenburg, designed for both humans and nonhumans. The prototype facilitates movement along the riverfront and provides a shortcut from the city center to Ringön.

ANIMALS BOX
Ziyue Wang
ANIMAL BOX is not only a transformation of the backyard of Blue Star Animal Hospital. it is also a stray animal shelter that can attract stray animals in the surrounding area and increase ecological diversity. it is also a public space where people in the southern part of the city can gather. The design adopts a modular design and can be implemented in any corner of the city, achieving economic, ecological and social sustainability.
